If you are here, you probably received an SMS or an email claiming to be a certified notification sent through smscertificado.es. This page tells you, in plain words, what it is, who is sending it and what you can do.
What is a certified notification?
It is a normal message — an SMS or an email you read like any other — with one important difference: an independent third party (us) puts on record its exact content, its date and time of sending and its delivery, and seals that record cryptographically. The result is a certificate with evidential force which the sender can use to prove what was communicated to you and when.
It is the modern equivalent of Spain's burofax: used for legally relevant communications such as contract termination notices, payment demands, meeting calls, appointments or formal requests. Receiving it does not oblige you to anything by itself: it proves that the communication took place, not that you agree with its content.
Who is sending it to me?
It is sent by the sender named in the message (a company, a professional, your homeowners' association…). We are the technology platform certifying the communication: we act as an impartial witness, not as a party. So if you want to respond to the content of the message, contact the sender — we do not know the matter and cannot mediate in it.
Suspect it might be fake?
Good instinct: healthy scepticism is wise. A legitimate certified notification will never ask you for passwords, bank details or payments to smscertificado.es. If in doubt, verify the certificate with the code that accompanies the message (below) or call us on +34 910 606 161 and we will check it with you.
Check that your certificate is genuine
Every certificate carries a secure verification code (CSV). Enter it in the verifier for the channel you received it through and you will see the sealed original.
What people usually ask when they receive one
Am I obliged to reply?
The notification proves that the communication took place; the consequences of replying or not depend on the specific matter (a contract, a claim, a deadline…). If it has important implications for you, consult a professional you trust.
How do I know the message hasn't been altered?
The content is sealed cryptographically at the moment of sending with a timestamp, and the resulting certificate allows an integrity check: if a single letter changed, verification would fail. You can check it yourself with the CSV code in the verifiers on this page.
What data of mine do you hold?
Only what is essential to provide the service to the sender: your number or address as recipient and the delivery events of the message. We process it under the GDPR and our privacy policy, which also explains how to exercise your rights.
Can I request the certificate of the message I received?
The certificate is issued for the sender, who contracts the service. However, with the CSV code that accompanies the message you can consult the sealed original in the verifier whenever you want: that is your guarantee as a recipient.
